About Me

I moved to Boulder from Honolulu, Hawaii in 1999 to study Civil Engineering at CU Boulder, and moved out to Louisville in 2007 to start a family.

I'm involved with the Louisville community, a member of two book clubs, a baby-sitting co-op, and run a play date group. Feel free to contact me for information on any of those groups. I have two school aged children, so feel free to ask about schools in the area as well.

"Steel Yards - Newer Mixed Use Development"

Steel Yards is a new mixed-use development, built at the site of, and named for, Boulder Steel Yards. Its 22 buildings include residential, retail, and office uses. It is located along the Goose Creek Greenway Trail, and is walking distance to many of the shops along the 30th St corridor. It can be a challenge to turn left onto 30th from the development, as left turns are prohibited from one of the access points, and the other point has no stoplight and 30th can be busy.
Pros
  • lots of restaurants
  • Pretty centrally located and easy access to I36.

"Newer Developments - Some Settlement Issues"

Superior really began getting built out in the 90s when subdivisions like Rock Creek and Sagamore were constructed. Superior Marketplace boasts Target, Whole Foods, Costco, and a host of other retailers draws shoppers from surrounding towns. It has easy access to Boulder and Denver, and shopping destination Flatirons Mall. Some of the properties have experienced settling, which can cause foundation issues, so be sure to talk to a professional when looking at homes in the area.

"Caledonia St. - Old Town"

Caledonia St is located in Old Town Louisville. There are a mix of homes, from historic cottages to new or remodeled two-story homes. This street has excellent access to all the great amenities Old Town has to offer. Walk to restaurants, shops, the library, seasonal street faire, and seasonal ice skating rink. Some of the drawbacks of this area include smaller lot sizes, smaller homes, smaller or no garages.

"Arrowhead St. - a calm connector"

Arrowhead is a calm connector. It is possible to get from the top of the hill (Washington Ave) to the bottom (Via Appia) by going along Arrowhead, but many commuters choose to use Tyler as the main thoroughfare. This keeps Arrowhead relatively quiet while maintaining connectivity and easy access. An added bonus is that homes on the north side of the street back to open space. Most homes were built in the late 1980s and are 2 stories.

"Regal St. - A mix of people"

Regal St. connects W Centennial Dr to Garfield. Along it are single family homes (mainly bi-level and tri-level), a senior housing development, some affordable housing apartments, and a park / tennis court facility. For a residential street, there tends to be a higher amount of traffic, as short buses transporting seniors, and school buses transporting the kids all use the route. Higher speeds (35 mph) can be an issue, as folks use it as a cut through street to get to South Boulder. It is a beautifully landscaped street, lined with mature trees, and sidewalks that connect to bike paths down by the tennis courts. Walking distance to Walgreens, Ralphies Sports Bar, and the proposed Alfalfas.
Pros
  • convenient (walk to shopping, trails, bus)
Cons
  • traffic (for a residential street)

"Caledonia Cir. - A quiet loop"

Caledonia Circle is a loop off of Lafayette St (which provides a connection between Via Appia and Main St in Old Town). One of the biggest perks of this street is that all of the homes on the exterior of this loop back to open space / bike paths, with an access trail into the neighborhood from Lake Park. Homes along this road are 3-4 bedrooms, and roughly 1800-2300 sq ft in size (with some larger and some smaller). Only one home on this loop has sold since January 2011.
Pros
  • great location
  • bigger homes
Cons
  • older, may need updating

"#1 Small Town in the US"

Lots of folks say they live in a fantastic area, but Louisville has actually been named the best small town to live in by Money Magazine. Louisville is a historic mining town, and was established in 1878. Within the past 5 years or so Louisville has become the place to be, and Main Street has gotten a face lift. There are new local restaurants and retail bordering the bustling pedestrian-friendly downtown area, and a block to the east is the new library, and Steinbaugh Pavillion, where weekly concerts are held during the summer Street Faire, and an outdoor ice rink is built during the winter. The community comes together for farmers markets, holiday parades, fun runs, and various other events. The plethora of parks scattered throughout town, connected by miles of bike paths add to the appeal of this little town. I lived in Boulder for 7 years before moving to Louisville in 2006. We were concerned about heading to the burbs at first, but quickly learned that it was the best move we've ever made. The pace, amenities, and activities seem to be very well suited for families, and we've made friends with folks from all walks of life who moved to town in search of a great place to call home.
Pros
  • Sense of Community
  • Open Space / Trails / Amenities
  • Quality Schools
Cons
  • bus access can be tough
  • some struggling/vacant retail centers
  • affordability
