West 148 St, Harlem

Sometimes, I wonder if it's fair to place so much emphasis on what a place looks like to make it seem alright to live there. This street surprised me in that the buildings looked terrible but the insides were clean and well maintained, something that seems few and far between on this side of town. Living in New York City, one becomes accustomed to the grittiness, but you don't necessarily want that to translate indoors. The bad part about these old buildings was that there is NO AIR CONDITIONING which is a serious problem during the summer months! Unbearable!!!
