"Moving Forward on a Positive Note"

This is the type of neighborhood that you want to tell people about who live outside of Detroit. This shows firsthand that there is a future for the city and that within it lies great potential. You see that when you look here and see firsthand how well the revitalization efforts are really going here.

Sure there are some small pockets within this neighborhood that need attention still, but it is a vast improvement from what it was years ago. This used to be an area that became run down, full of abandoned homes and trashed streets. Fast forward to present time and you will see that this has become a true sign of how well revitalization efforts can really go.

You have the Henry Ford Hospital located within this neighborhood and that's a major draw. Not only can you live close to the hospital but there are plenty of restauratns and shops right around there as well. This tends to draw in people who work at the hospital or who just want to be located near it.

There are some great new developments continuing to go up and that is moving people in. It's a good cost of living for a new development in a great area of town. You do have to ignore the small pockets of areas in need of help, but for the most part that is the minority of the area as a whole.

You have great accessibility, you're close to major roads and the hospital, have amenities nearby, and are even close to schools. This is a great area within Detroit and a sign that revitaliztion is coming and that it truly can work to your advantage.

"More than a neighborhood - a historic district"

Virginia Park is one of the many historic districts dotting the metropolitan Detroit area. It is situated in the area surrounding Virginia Park Street, and stretches from Woodward to the service drive of the bust John C. Lodge Freeway. It is just a short walk from Detroit’s New Center, and is among the many revived areas in the city. Though its past was plagued by the racial implications following the riots of 1967, it has since become one of the pleasant areas in the city.

Much of the layout and many of the houses dating back to the late 19th and early 20th-century are preserved within the Virginia Park neighborhood. Though it was upper-middle class in the past, it is far from that today. It is, however, not nearly as downtrodden as many other neighborhoods in the city.

Henry Ford Hospital sits within the neighborhood, as do many Revival, Neo-Georgian and colonial homes. The neighborhoods tends toward a middle-aged population, and household incomes are as much as $10,000-$15,000 higher than many of the other neighborhoods in the metro area.

People looking for one of the nicer areas in Detroit should look no further than Virginia Park – and the history within.

"Another neighborhood that is kind of a mixed bag"

A guy I worked with downtown lives in the new development over on Rosa Parks, and a woman I know lives near the hospital, I think it’s on Woodrow Wilson. Both of these areas are in the same neighborhood, but there is a difference in the two places.

I like the new development on Rosa Parks. It's clean and fresh, but I don't know exactly what year it was built. Something else must have been there and gotten torn down. I would definitely live in the Estates. Wide open streets, clean, two story brick houses or condos line the streets. There is also plenty of trees and greenery in here.

But over on Woodrow Wilson, I saw houses that were boarded up. I didn't see a bunch of vagrants wandering about, though, so that was good.

A couple of highlights in the area: The New Center area is right down the way across the Lodge, and of course Henry Ford Hospital is right in this neighborhood.

As the hospital is probably good for the local economy, there are retail stores and restaurants all along West Grand Blvd. The buses run down West Grand Blvd and Rosa Parks as far as public transportation. I don’t know about the rest of the area, but I would 100% consider the Estates on Rosa Parks Blvd.
