I have a five day tour in Detroit. What are the bad areas for me to avoid?

I just do not know enough about Detroit, except bad opinions of it. People say it has really deteoriated over the past few decades.

Unfortunately the city has received a lot of bad press.Detroit has several beautiful museums and historical places to visit. If you stay near the tourist areas downtown you should be fine. Most of the surrounding suburbs like Oakland county are also pretty safe.

Given what I've read, I'd definitely avoid neighbourhoods such as: Brightmoor, Del Ray, Milwalkee Junction, Rosedale, Briggs, Poletown East, Wyoming St. / Orangelawn St., and areas surrounding the derelict Packard Automotive Plant, just to list a few of them.
