"Not a Desirable Area"

Normally when you say that an area is just off of the expressway that adds appeal in terms of accesibility. In this case however it really just adds a lot of noise to this already undesirable spot. The unforunate part is that you can see when you look at some of the homes here you can see that there was once some beauty and a great neighborhood within here.

Now many of the homes are either in need of major improvements or updates. Many of the homes are even adandoned and therefore make for a very unsafe environment. You will find homeless within the abandoned homes and the streets are filled with abandoned cars and in some cases garbage.

This is yet another area of the city that many hope will be able to get a bit of attention in terms of revitalization. It's easy to get to and isn't too far from amenities that you would need, but it's hard to get past the unsavory surroundings. You want to feel safe where you live and unfortunately you won't feel that way here.

You could get a lot for your money with the homes available but you have to decide if you are comfortable in this environment. This part of town is unfortunately not a good spot to visit and most certainly not a good spot to live. Hopefully it will turn around at some point, but for now it's worth looking at neighboring communities to be safe.

"Loud and busy, run-down and dangerous"

Petosky-Otsego in Detroit is a neighborhood that is just off of the I-96 Jeffries Freeway. It is within a short walk of a number of small municipal parks, but these hardly add to the run-down nature of the community. Filled with quiet residential streets, the community is mostly filled with broken down homes and abandoned houses and complexes. It is an area that has attracted both the homeless and the undesirable, and has a higher level of crime than residents would like to get used to.

This neighborhood is a part of the legacy of the city that has dwindled in the past four decades. It has become somewhat of an eyesore for some of the nicer nearby neighborhoods – though there are not many in the immediate area. Petosky-Otsego does feature a high number of hard-working people, pulling themselves up by the bootstraps and doing what they can to live in an area that has not always been considered desirable.

Opt for one some of the neighborhoods farther north or farther east if considering this community, or plant yourself amongst the right people in the area and enjoy the company of the best of the city who have braved the worst of the city – just stay away from the crowds and the crime.

"This is not a nice place to visit..."

My longtime girlfriend's mom lived in this neighborhood, in a rundown apartment complex over near Livernois and Davidson. My girl didn't live with her mom, but she visited her often and I drove her over here and even hung out for a while.

I know that some people don't have a choice about where they live, but man this place was awful. It bothers me greatly to see hardworking, honest people trying their best and trying to cope with their surroundings in a place like this. Riff-raff wandered the street day and night, and you always had the feeling that you were about five minutes from getting robbed. Lots of boarded up homes, vacant lots, burnt out buildings, and tires littered some streets.

Over by Davidson and Livernois there was major traffic and noise. Buses did run for the residents, but I wouldn't have felt safe waiting at a bus stop. Loud, noisy, junky cars blared their music and raced up down the main streets and the residential roads. It was like everyone was just trying to survive over here.

I am sorry but I cannot recommend this neighborhood. For those who live there and are trying their best, good luck to you.
Pros
  • Close to major freeways
  • retail stores and public transportation available on Livernois and Davidson
Cons
  • Blight and crime everywhere
  • Livernois and Daviidson is loud and noisy
