"Rich, cool families"

There's not a lot going on in the West street area because it's so far, well, west. It's the last street before the Hudson so there isn't a ton in the realm of things to do. But, despite the traffic whizzing by (West is a highway), I kind of like West. It's a lot quieter than other streets in Tribeca and there's a lot of green around. There's an old spice factory right on the corner of West and Canal that has been converted to luxury condos. The building is really gorgeous and the units are outrageously expensive. Jennifer Connolly and Paul Bettany live in this building. The majority of this street is taken up by buildings like this. They have a view of the Hudson and there's a great park that runs along it just across the from the apartments. There's one restaurant on West, just at Desbrosses, but the rest of the street as it runs through this neighborhood is luxury residential. There are a lot of families here (rich ones) and there are a lot of trees. The piers on the Hudson just across from this part of West feature things like a skating rink and a mini golf course so there's a lot to be done with the family. The only thing I would really worry about if I had kids around here would be the amount and speed of the traffic on the street. It's pretty terrifying. But, it's, generally, a family neighborhood.
Pros
  • Quiet
  • Beautiful apartments
Cons
  • Highway traffic
  • No bar or restaurants scene
