"zoo heaven"

Anyone who has been to the National Zoo is familiar with Woodley Park. That’s because this is where you get off the Metro train for your visit. It is one of those places in DC which is beautiful, a tourist trap, and safe as well. Of course, having the tourists swarming all over the neighborhood can be annoying, but for most residents it is a fair trade for the privilege of living near those beautiful Pandas and other animals. Hey, being able to take your kids across the street to the zoo whenever you want is a pretty cool thing. It wouldn’t surprise me if there are some children who have grown up here and gone on to study animals for a living.
If you want to live here, there are multiple options. One of them is to purchase one of the beautiful single family homes which have been kept up for generations. The other option is to go into one of the fashionable new high rises. Depending on the size of your family, and your financial means, one might be better for your family than another. One disadvantage of a house though is keeping up your yard with the tourists around. However, it is still a great place to be.

"Come for the pandas, stay for the pretty apartments"

This area is fabulously green thanks to its proximity to the zoo, and feels like a trip out of the city to visitors and DC-ists alike. Within walking distance from the metro are gorgeous old apartment buildings, and affluent visitors can stake a space at the Omni Shoreham or the sprawling Marriott. Restaurant-wise, locals tend to pack into Open City and New Heights (I walked past a line going all the way down the street once), both of which are fantastic, if you can snag a seat.

If you're like me, and get vicarious pleasure out of walking past very pretty (and moderately expensive) apartment buildings, or if you can afford these, this neighborhood is perfect for you. Except keep an eye out for the ENORMOUS crowds of tourists en route to the zoo, especially in spring and summer.

And if you happen to visit the zoo, push through the tourists and say hello to the panda. You'll be glad you did.

"Almost Heaven"

One of the nicest neighborhoods in Washington D.C. by far as it seems to have it all, starting with a great central location. Connecticut Avenue is the main road thru the neighborhood and serves as the area where most of the stores, shops, entertainment and restaurants are located. in addition, you will find numerous apartment buildings along this road as well. On either side of Connecticut Avenue you will find beautiful and well maintained old homes on tree lined streets. Public transportation utilizing both Metro buses as well as the Metro train system is available. As with most neighborhoods in the city parking can be a challenge. Many will find the cost of owning a home here an issue as well, but rentals are available.

"Scenic, In More Ways Than One"

Woodley Park is a lovely neighborhood in one of the nicest, most settled part of the District of Columbia, the northwest quadrant. It shares border with the National Zoo on one side and Rock Creek Park on another. It is also easy to get to on the DC Metro’s Red Line.

Characterized by wide streets and spacious lots, some parts of Woodly Park still retain their original, early 20th century homes. These areas feature rows and rows of single family homes that have retained their value across the decades because of careful care and maintenance. They rest peacefully under old trees that have grown tall and strong around generations of residnets. These homes are obvious favorites among young families looking for a place to raise children.

On the other hand, most of the single or newly married residents who are moving in today gravitate toward the tall, high-end apartment buildings. Even though District regulations prohibit them from being taller than eight stories, from the top of these buildings you can see Rock Creek Park in one direction and the National Cathedral to the other. In many people’s mind these amazing views more than make up for not having a lawn.
