"Near Portland International Airport"

Parkrose Heights is not to be confused to Parkrose, though they are in close proximity. Located in East Portland, Parkrose Heights is near Portland International Airport (known as PDX), and is close to the I-84, which takes you right into downtown Portland.

While there are lots of local restaurants and stores, residents are close to the shopping center that is across the street from the airport. Here you have every chain, including IKEA, Best Buy and Target. While public transportation is good and can take you right into downtown, many feel that a car is necessary in Parkrose Heights to travel locally.

Essentially a residential community, there is little green space with the exception of a Knott Street Park, Senn’s Community Garden and Senn’s Dairy Park. However, there is a small active group who keep quite busy with the goal of making Parkrose Heights a desirable location to live.

meganr12 As a resident of Parkrose Heights, this is a fairly quiet community and airport noise is NOT a problem here. I live close to Halsey and I'd say petty crime is no different than desirable neighborhoods where I have previously lived (Alberta, Pearl District, Hawthorne and North Tabor) . Many of my neighbors are long-term homeowners and take care of their property. Over the last several years, younger homeowners have moved to the area. Mostly due to the"affordability" of homes as compared to closer in properties where prices have sky-rocketed. I work close to the Lloyd Center and it takes me about 25 minutes to drive to work during rush hour and about 15 minutes drive to Cascade Station/Airport. I like are parks and I feel safe spending time there. I do want to note that Senn's Community Garden and Senn's Dairy Park are NOT in Parkrose Heights. These parks are in Parkrose which is closer to Sandy and the Airport.

"Quiet, Family-Focused Residential Neighborhood"

Parkrose Heights is a Northeast Portland neighborhood located just south and east of I84, north of NE Halsey St, and east of NE 122nd Street. This is a quiet and unassuming residential neighborhood offering a convenient commute thanks to its location along major thoroughfares.

Some streets feel quiet and suburban, while others -- particularly in the north and east sides of the neighborhood -- are decidedly urban. Knott Park, in the center of the neighborhood, is popular among families. Most of the neighborhood's businesses are located along Halsey Street, the southern boundary. There's also hospital in the southwest corner of the neighborhood.

Parkrose Heights is home to families and a sizable number of retirees, in part because there are a couple of large nursing homes here. Other residents include a mix of renters and homeowners; both tend to live in the neighborhood for a long time. Parkrose Heights is filled with modest, affordable homes built in the 1950s and 1960s. The North end is seen as more upscale and wealthier than the south end, though there seems to be little difference to those just driving through the area, and you'd have to be very familiar with the neighborhood to notice.
Pros
  • Affordable homes
  • Nice park
  • Near I-84 and airport
Cons
  • Not much to do here

"Small East Portland Community Near the Airport"

Not surprisingly, Parkrose Heights is a East Portland neighborhood right near Parkrose. It is also bordered to the North by Maywood Park and to the East by Russell. This area is extremely close to the airport. Also it offers some real convenience since it is so close to I-84. As a result, transporting oneself anywhere in the city is fairly easy from Parkrose Heights.

In this area a person definitely will feel as though he or she is in the suburbs. The closest major shopping center is actually right near the airport. This area has a Target, Best Buy, Ikea etc. This is another facet of this area that will make residents feel as though they are in the suburbs. These types of big brand corporations are seldom seen in NW, SW and SE Portland. Parkrose Heights also has a lot of little restaurants including some sports bars, coffee houses and Mexican restaurants. These are located on Weidler.

Parkrose Heights does have some crime. This mostly consists of thefts from automobiles and burglaries. While not a particularly dangerous area, it makes sense to be cautious.

There are some green areas in Parkrose Heights including Knott Street Park, Senn's Community Garden and Senn's Dairy Park. Knott Park is about 12 acres and has a playground and some nice open spaces.

One nice this about Parkrose Heights is that although it is airly small (there are about 2500 homes) there is a nice sense of community. The association of neighbors gets together frequently with the goal of improving the area.
Pros
  • Near I-84 and airport
Cons
  • Some crime
  • Traffic
