"Affordable Housing in East Portland, Close to IMAX, Hospital"

Hazelwood is located in East Portland and is an affordable community mixed with residential and commercial neighborhoods. Close to the IMAX, Hazelwood is an easy commute into downtown Portland that makes this area particularly attractive to those first time homebuyers who don’t have a lot of money to spend but want to be close to the action. With plenty of local shopping nearby as well as plentiful restaurants (nothing over the top, but good eats) it's also comforting to know that Adventist Hospital is here surrounded by several other medical offices. This is a good location for seniors and/or retired people to consider living. The homes are older, but possibly because of the medical staff in the area, newer and therefore, updated apartments and townhouses are popping up in the area. There are a few nice parks dispersed around town and overall, a nice community. Many say Hazelwood has huge potential given its location, public transportation, employment opportunities and a growing interest from the community to improve the overall ambiance of the town.

"Good Potential for Finding a Starter Home"

Hazelwood is an East Portland neighborhood that has some major pluses for those looking for a home in Portland. You can definitely find lower prices in Hazelwood along with a convenient location that offers some nice shopping and dining options. There are a variety of different home styles too including ranch homes and cape cod homes. Most of the houses were built in the 50's and 60's. You will also find some new construction including townhomes. Hazelwood could be a good option for those looking for a starter home. Some speculate that it is likely a good investment due to its location. One of the reasons that Hazelwood is so convenient is that it is right along the TriMet MAX line.

Hazelwood is close to several roads that tend to have traffic, like Burnside Street. However, it still feels quiet and the streets offer somewhat of a respite. Among the areas business infrastructure is the Adventist Hospital. Many will like the fact that a hospital is so close to this neighborhood. However, with the commerce areas does come some crime. There are some burglaries, auto thefts and robberies in Hazelwood.

"Suburban Neighborhood With Good Mix of Commercial and Residential Areas"

Hazelwood is an urban and suburban neighborhood on the East side of Portland. There are both residential and commercial areas. On the MAX line, it's easy to get anywhere else in the city from Hazelwood, making it popular for professionals who work in other parts of Portland.

Hazelwood is known for medical facilities, which include the fairly large Adventist Hospital and a number of doctors and other medical offices. As far as shopping, retail businesses are concentrated in Gateway Shopping Center and Mall 205. Easy access to shopping and dining makes this a popular area of the city. There are also a number of parks in the area, providing a good balance with the relatively crowded commercial areas.

Residents of Hazelwood have their choice from condos and townhouses, modest ranch-style homes, and some larger houses. Most of the houses were built in the 1950s through the 1970s, while the apartments are newer developments. Many are on quiet, tree-lined streets, though some of the apartments are located in busier areas of the neighborhood, such as on 122nd Ave or Burnside Street. Because Hazelwood is fairly far from downtown Portland, homes tend to be more affordable than similar houses in 'close-in' neighborhoods.
