Indianapolis is another good day trip city. They have a children's museum, zoo, art museum, Hall of Fame Museum at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, The Eiteljorg Museum, plus many more attractions and things to do. Indianapolis would also make a nice weekend away from town. A little over 3 hours away from Cincinnati is the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio. The Reformatory offers tours of the historic facility. The Reformatory has been featured in episodes of travel and ghost hunting shows, music videos, and numerous movies. It was the sight of the movie "The Shawshank Redemption." Several different tours of the Reformatory are offered, including a "Hollywood Tour" that features visits to locations used in both "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Air Force One."

You can get to a lot of places and back in a day. Assuming you're willing to travel 100 miles and have kids, there's -COSI museum in Columbus.
-The Indianapolis Children's museum in Indiana.
-Kings Island in Kings Mills area is a fun trip for families.
-A little known place is the Arnstrong Air and Space Museum in Wapakoneta, Ohio (Armstrong's hometown)

If you're an adult looking for fun, there are several casino/resorts nearby in Indiana. One has a golf course. They all have restaurants and entertainment, in addition to gambling. They have hotels if you'd prefer to stay the night.

There's the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington to learn about horses, take a surrey ride and more.

SuzM has a some good suggestions as well.

It really depends on what you are interested in doing on your day trip. Because of Cincinnati's convenient location in the state, near both Indiana and Kentucky, there are many options to choose from. One great option is to visit Brown County Indiana. This area of Southwestern Indiana is known for its Art Colony, founded in 1907. The historic village of Nashville, Indiana, features many shops and galleries and is only a little over two hours away from the Cincinnati area. Louisville, Kentucky, is another great day trip from Cincinnati. You can visit the Louisville Slugger Museum in Downtown Louisville, home of the world's biggest bat. In keeping with the sports theme, you can also visit the Kentucky Derby Museum located at Louisville's Churchill Downs. These are just a few of the many options for day trips from the Cincinnati area.
