Macy's/Marshall Field's Virtual/Audio Tour

Yet another find for my growing library of virtual/audio tours. This one is available from Macy's website at http://www.visitmacyschicago.com/tours.cfm A little more cumbersome than some of my other recent finds. But just as interesting, educational, and fascinating.

At the website, you can view and listen to short a “video tour”, or download the 6 audio tours. However the audio clips do NOT have pictures or video. Surely, they are intended for listening while walking through the store.

The in-person audio tour is available from the Visitor Center. I believe it is still located on the 7th Floor.

Before Macy's took over this iconic store – still referred to by many locals as “Marshall Field's”, this upscale, retail giant was one of the shopping meccas on State Street. Since the Macy's takeover, it still is, but draws from a different clientele (the young and restless with disposable income). But as the 2nd largest store in the world (probably behind Harrod's), Macy's has retained most if not all of the basic features that attracted shoppers from the beginning. More importantly, it continues to attract those interested in its architectural history and significance.
