"Desire a Floating House? Welcome to Bridgetown!"

Bridgetown is a small community in North Portland, not far from the Washington border. Easy access to I-5 freeway make it easy to get to downtown Portland or Vancouver, WA as Bridgetown is in the smack dab middle of both locations. But keep in mind that traffic during rush hour is horrendous.

The appeal to this neighborhood is its location right on the harbor of the Columbia River. Needless to say, this is a perfect environment to nature lovers and boaters. Interested in purchasing a floating home? This would be the place! Bridgetown also offers nice, upscale condos, reasonably priced homes and apartments. Close to the Max train, Bridgetown is minutes from the Portland International Airport. Of course, airport noise has been a big issue for some Bridgetown residents.

Local shopping is nearby at Jantzen Beach Shopping Center and there are some nice restaurants that are very popular with the locals. Outdoor activity is not just limited to the water. The Portland forty-mile loop bike trail passes through here and there are some beautiful parks.

"Outdoorsy Area on the Water"

Bridgeton is located in the Northernmost part of Portland- almost in Washington State! It is right on the water along Marine Drive. Since residents are so close to Vancouver this means that they can easily travel over the border to enjoy more shopping options and additional restaurants.

Bridgeton is a very pretty area and there is a nice selection of different types of homes. It tends to have the small town vibe so many Portland neighborhoods are so famous for. The area even has a local goose named Gus! In addition to regular homes, you will also found houseboats and floating homes!

One issue many people find in Bridgeton is that since it is so close to the freeway, it can be both noisy and "trafficky." However, on the plus side being close to the freeway means that you can get to downtown and other parts of the city quickly if it isn't rush hour. Rush hour can be quite lethal in this part of the city! Currently, there is a project going on called the Columbia River Crossing Project, which seeks to create a long-term solution for travel around the Columbia River. Right now, there are a lot of car crashes, and congestion problems. Further, people walking or on bikes also have trouble crossing the river. The Columbia River Crossing Project seeks to solve these issues, so perhaps there is some hope!

  • Interesting Mix of Housing Options

"Water-Focused Neighborhood On the Columbia River"

Bridgeton occupies a skinny strip of land along the Columbia River. It's home to a number of houseboats, along with apartments, condos, and houses. The neighborhood is named because of its location near the bridge crossing the Columbia. Anchored by Marine Drive, the location near the river seems to define this area.

This part of the Columbia River offers boating, sailing, and fishing opportunities. As you might expect, there are several marinas and marine-related businesses located here. The neighborhood also has a growing residential area, along with several new condo developments. Residents tend to move here because of its proximity to the river and are very active in the outdoors. There are many ducks in the area, which some residents enjoy feeding and others consider a nuisance.

Residents deal with a moderate level of both traffic and noise, including that from the nearby airport. If you want to avoid the traffic, ride your bike. There is a 40-mile bike trail loop passing through Bridgeton. The MAX light rail system, as well as the freeway, are accessible at the west edge of the neighborhood. While Bridgeton residents are very close to Vancouver, at the other side of the River, commuting there can be tricky during rush hour.

  • Bike trail
