"Old Town Louisville is a great place to live and hang out..."

Louisville is a great little town just about 20 minutes drive from Boulder. There are nice little neighborhoods and the old town/downtown of Louisville is a great place. There is a great little downtown to shop, eat and walk--the restaurants are unique and the beer is great. I especially love Waterloo, they have great food, drinks, prices and live music right on Main Street.
Pros
  • Open Space / Trails / Amenities
  • Proximity to Boulder
  • Property values increasing

"A quint city with lots of charm"

Louisville is a hidden treasure between Boulder and Denver! The small town has lots of cute stores, great restaurants, nice parks and easy access to main artery highways. Downtown Louisville is a close-knit community where people walk to pick up their children from school and share vegetables in the summer. However, you will pay a hefty price to live in this lovely neighborhood as real estate is very expensive here.
Pros
  • downtown with lots of character
  • Open Space / Trails / Amenities
  • Proximity to Boulder
  • Sense of Community
Cons
  • very expensive housing
HeatherS
HeatherS Do you think real estate in Louisville is about 90% of the cost in the outskirts of Boulder now? I remember when Louisville was significantly cheaper?

"It Wasn't Rated The Best Place to Live in America for Nothing!"

Having both lived and worked in Louisville, Colorado for many years, I found all the hype about why the community was voted the Best Place to Live by CNN’s Money Magazine twice, to be true. This community literally has it all: a great school system, a thunderous local economy (booming just wasn’t strong enough), gorgeous views, a thriving real estate market, and wholesome values! What else could you ask for? To me it’s almost like Louisville is a “Little Boulder,” since a large portion of residents are health conscious, active, and environmentally aware. In addition, the community seems to have a similar free spirit about it.

The only difference is that Louisville definitely has a small town vibe about it. People here know their neighbors and local business owners. When I lived there, I ran into people everywhere and still to this day every time I visit Louisville for a day trip or a night out, I always see someone I know. When you buy real estate in Louisville, CO you are not just getting a house, you are gaining an entire community!

  • Proximity to Boulder
  • Sense of Community

Cons

"I love this town"

I have lived in Louisville, CO with my family for the past 10 years. We LOVE it here. The location is fantastic, with very easy proximity to Boulder (12-15 min drive to downtown Boulder), and you can be in Denver in 25 minutes on a good traffic day. Old Town Louisville has developed into a fun, hip place to hang out with great restaurants. In the summer there is a Street Faire that runs on Friday nights with live music, food booths and beer garden - SO fun. There's also a little Farmer's Market on Saturdays. Tons of walking/biking trails and some great parks. We have two yellow labs and walk them on the open space trails daily. (Our favorite is Davidson Mesa.) The community is fun and supportive, and very family friendly.

"Small town leading the way in East Boulder County"

Great small town atmosphere with lots of community events including parades, art nights out, street fairs, farmers markets, etc.. A very desireable place to live and raise a family with highly ranked Boulder Valley School District schools and active parent involvement. Close to Boulder with easy acces to Denver on the Boulder Turnpike ( 36 ). Nice golf course and recreation center. Good dining options with a mix of locally owned restuarants and chain restuarants. Also, ample shopping available, plus a short drive to Flatirons Crossing Mall. I have lived in Louisville, but now live in Erie( more home for the money ) . I have worked in Louisville for over 26 years, it is a wonderful place to work. My sons are also active in a local boy scout troop that is very active in the community and draws scouts and their families from Louisville, Lafayette, Erie and Broomfield. Louisville has a lot to offer, come and check out one of our community events, you may decide to stay.

"Ponderosa Pines - Hillside Properties with City Views"

I like this side of South Boulder Rd. Where you can find homes in a variety of price ranges and typically updated. Although some can be close to south Boulder rd. (and under 500k as a result AND still sell), the neighborhood has some great character, large 1/3 acre lots and if you are lucky either views of Broomfield & Louisville to the south, to if Yoyu are REALLY lucky and have a few more dollars to spend panoramic views of the front range over Boulder County open space. There is a HOA (passive) at $25 per year. Sample property: www.1748Eisenhower.com

"#1 Small Town in the US"

Lots of folks say they live in a fantastic area, but Louisville has actually been named the best small town to live in by Money Magazine. Louisville is a historic mining town, and was established in 1878. Within the past 5 years or so Louisville has become the place to be, and Main Street has gotten a face lift. There are new local restaurants and retail bordering the bustling pedestrian-friendly downtown area, and a block to the east is the new library, and Steinbaugh Pavillion, where weekly concerts are held during the summer Street Faire, and an outdoor ice rink is built during the winter. The community comes together for farmers markets, holiday parades, fun runs, and various other events. The plethora of parks scattered throughout town, connected by miles of bike paths add to the appeal of this little town. I lived in Boulder for 7 years before moving to Louisville in 2006. We were concerned about heading to the burbs at first, but quickly learned that it was the best move we've ever made. The pace, amenities, and activities seem to be very well suited for families, and we've made friends with folks from all walks of life who moved to town in search of a great place to call home.
Pros
  • Sense of Community
  • Open Space / Trails / Amenities
  • Quality Schools
Cons
  • bus access can be tough
  • some struggling/vacant retail centers
  • affordability
