SAFE AND COMMUTABLE TO CIVIC CENTER

I have to make a quick decision about whether to accept a job position in the Civic Center area of SF. Currently live at beach in So. Cal. After reading lots, I am worried about the availability of a safe and clean area. Love SF but lots of folks have recently said how dirty is has become and unaffordable. Just wondering what you'd do in my position!!
