Parallels

This post was semi-inspired by another thread. Have any of you ever walked down the street in SF and thought to yourselves, "Hmm, this neighborhood sure reminds me of..."? This tends to happen a lot in this city, at least to me, and I thought I'd post a few of mine here and see what the rest of you thought:

Union Square = Fifth Avenue (NYC)

Castro = Provincetown, Cape Cod, MA, or maybe Chelsea (NYC)

Embarcadero = Sydney Harbour

Noe Valley = West Village (NYC)

Fisherman's Wharf = Baltimore Inner Harbor (or maybe South Street Seaport)

Chinatown = Well, any other Chinatown

Mission District = East Village (NYC)

Anyone have others they want to chime in on? I just thought it would be fun to do a true side-by-side since we compare and contrast so much on these threads anyway...

I'm not going to be very good at this having only been to handful of places but let me give this a try.

How about Golden Gate Park= Central Park (I actually have no idea but from movies this is the feeling that I get).

Mission=Berkeley (Okay so it is only just across the Bay but I told you I wouldn't be very good at this game).

I am badly in need of a passport or a road trip, huh?

North Beach = London - architecturally speaking.
Embarcadero = Beverly Hills (at night) but I can also see Syney Harbour a little
Mission = Market Street in Philadelphia

Hmm, didn't think of Embarcadero as Beverly Hills right off the bat but it definitely does have some of that.

I think that the Golden Gate/Central Park comparison is actually pretty accurate, although parts of the Presidio remind me of Central Park as well.
