Best Place to See A Movie in SF

Where are the best movie theaters at these days?

1. Japantown - Sundance Kabuki
Are you one of those people who is always rushing to the movies and then find yourself searching for a seat in the dark? Search no more. Thanks to Sundance Kabuki's amenity system, every seat is now assigned. You pick your seat online or at the box office and it is secured. If you're 21 or over you can even drink your wine or beer and grab a snack for the movie. The charge is $3, but it is well worth it not to rush to the movies or try to get there early. And if you
2. Financial District - Embarcadero Cinema
Located in 1 Embarcadero Center, this little theater brings you top rated films as well as small Indie films. They serve the usual fare of popcorn and candy, but they also step it up a notch with biscotti, espresso and ice cream.
3. Marina - Marina Theater
The Marina Theater is newer and more clean than the Presidio Theater down the block. For that reason alone, I think it's the better choice of the two. Great for a date or singles.
4. Union Square - Century Theater
This is a state of the art facility and has all of the bells and whistles to go along with it. Fully equipped snack bar with anything you can imagine, an arcade to occupy you before the movie and clean. Stadium seating. Great for groups or singles.

Good CALL. I haven't heard of assigned seating at the movies before. Not sure if I would like that, but it is a unique idea nonetheless. What a great list. Dolores Park also does movies every second Thursday of the month, although that is probably for a slightly different audience than those who are reading this listing.

The Kabuki is great! And I've seen lots of foreign films at the Embarcadero! (If I remember right, they validate parking too dont' they? Not sure now.)

I would add some of the great historic movie houses too--

The Castro--with the player piano and all is wonderful and always an entertaining crowd too. Always has great film festivals.

The Roxy in Mission. Another great one.

Outside of your catagory, but Oakland has the Grand Lake, another nice old theater.

And there is the AFI in Berkeley--they play the strangest stuff ever. (The theater itself is nothing spectacular.)

@FlowerGirl, yes Embarcadero validates parking. I haven't been to The Castro theater, but it sounds like fun.
@StephSF - OMG, assigned seating is the best because you no longer have to rush to the movies to find that great seat. And plus if you are with a group of friends you can now all sit together. It's so awesome. And they have a 21 and over auditorium where you can bring in your wine/beer or cocktail and food. Quite nice.

I have heard that there is a Mission Restaurant that projects movies on the wall while you eat. Usually French New Wave films like Godard and Truffaut--I don't know if it would be the best way of watching of movie but sounds like it could make for a fun place for a date.

@NightOwInOrinda - you are correct. That restaurant is the Foreign Cinema restaurant. You can't hear anything, but it definitely adds to the cool ambiance. Their food is very good as well.
