Bridesmaid Dress?

I have a friend's wedding coming up and I need to find a bridesmaid dress for relatively cheap (preferably one where that I can maybe reuse as a party dress later). She said she doesn't care what's like as long as it fits the color scheme (purple and pink--ick). Anybody have any ideas where to go in Nor Cal for that?

Honestly, I've had success at Macy's. That's where I bought my bridesmaids their dresses and they were under $150 bucks. They usually have a large variety. Another place is Ann Taylor or Nordstrom Rack. If you go to any type of bridal store you will pay out the nose!

I know it's a little hit-or-miss, but I have friends who have had success at various thrift stores. I don't know Berkeley that well, but I am confident that you do. It's a risk but if you are on a tight budget it could be an option (those things tend to only get worn once, anyway).

On a side note, I went to a wedding last month that was a mishmosh of bridesmaid dresses that were confined by color scheme only, and I have to say that it was one of the coolest weddings I have been to for many reasons. @Flowergirl, can't wait to hear your successes.

Thanks guys. Those are good suggestions; I'll tell you what I end up finding. This is my first wedding so I really have no idea what I'm doing. (Thankfully, I am not the maid of honor.)

Cool! Is the wedding local? I've always thought a beach wedding atop a cliff in Northern/central California would be cool...but I digress. Hehe. Any luck yet?

If I were getting married, I would definetely do it at a beach--preferably at a nudist beach so everybody would know exactly what they were getting into. That was a joke by the way; I foresee a lonely spinsterhood in my future--just me and my future cats.

As to the wedding, the whole thing might be off--seems there is trouble in paradise. Rings have been returned, reservations cancelled. (I am not altogether surprised, the last three times I went out with them they fought like cats and dogs the whole time.) Anyway, I luckily had not yet gotten a dress which now it looks like I might never have used anyway.

Wow, if they are returning rings and canceling reservations, that sounds pretty legitimately off. Forgive my gushing girly excitement; I am in a pretty serious relationship myself and while we are still a ways off from pinning down a date (like deciding which coast to live on, for one), I am more excited than usual for the proverbial "wedding porn."

As an aside, if you do the wedding at a nude beach (there is one just south of Stinson if you are looking for a place!) then not only does that save you a pile of money on a dress, but none of your bridesmaids will have to post to different forums in order to figure out where to get discounted wedding dresses! Just sayin'.

I got married on the beach in San Diego and it was AWESOME! Sorry to hear about the wedding getting canceled but sure am glad for you that you didn't get a dress yet.

Wow, the beach! That is definitely memorable--I assume everyone kept their clothes on. I was just kidding about the clothes, but if I ever get married, I would definitely want to do it at an unusual location like that.

Have you ever seen that perfume advertisement with the wedding party chasing the bride across the beach? It's in black and white--for Estee Lauder, I think. I generally don't go for wedding stuff in advertisment ploys but that one has always appealed to me. Those ad-guys had my number on that one.

Umm, a beach wedding in San Diego, @Tracypie? I am definitely curious to hear more...

@Flowergirl, I don't know what ad you are talking about but I'm definitely with you on the beach wedding. I went to one in Maine last month that was spectacular. Personally, I would love to get married in Big Sur, and I have already told my boyfriend that I have to be barefoot. Since my family is all on the East Coast, we are thinking of having dual weddings on both coasts.

Honestly, the coolest one I have ever heard of was two friends who got married - one was from Portland and the other from somewhere in Florida, and they had lived in multiple places throughout the course of their lives. They had a total of FOUR weddings all over the U.S. - all of them fun, none of them fancy - so that all of their friends could attend and see them get married without having to incur any huge expenditures. I guess if you can't get the guests to the wedding, you can bring the wedding to the guests...

(This thread has gone off on so many different tangents but I don't even care...)
