Is Inwood in New York City walkable? Can I walk to everything or do I need a car?

Normally, I would say that you don't need a car anywhere in Manhattan. But, Inwood is so far north that public transportation is average to poor at best. You can definitely live without a car in Inwood, but it's one of the few neighborhoods wherein it's actually more convenient to have one.
