"Slow but steady upward progress"

I have lived here for 3 years and my partner has lived here for 52 years. We can see definite improvement although many challenges remain. Gwynns Falls has an active community association (Gwynns Falls Business and Homeowners Association) with a President who is an energetic and creative school teacher. We have two parks- the Lower Gwynns Falls Park through which the Gwynns Falls Trail runs and Wellesley Park, a new park created from two previously debris filled empty lots. Gwynns Falls is also the home of the SW Police Station making violent crime rare. Real estate prices here are bargains and will likely now follow the general upward trend. The neighborhood is diverse, about half and half black and white with a sprinkling of Hispanics and families with Mennonite and Amish backgrounds. As gay men my partner and I have never experienced any problems or hostility. This is city living so you are well advised to adequately secure your home and personal property. Most challenges here relate to absentee landlords who do not maintain their properties but the City Housing folks are helping to raise expectations with fines for code violations. Overall this is a neighborhood that is likely to continue improving where you can live in a safe and decent community for a reasonable price.
Pros
  • Active community association
