One of my favorite places to see a live music is the Botanic Gardens. During the summer they have evening concerts almost every weekend. You can bring a chair or blanket, wine, food, snacks, etc.. You sit on the grass around the stage. Great, Intimate concert setting.

Do they have a stage or is it more intimate?

DCPA.org if you like theater. A couple of other rare gems are the Boulder Dinner Theater and the Arvada Center. If you can drive an hour or so the amphitheater in Dillon is in the mountains and right on the water. In another direction... head to the Golden Bee and the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. If you are looking to find a good local music scene that is free, nothing beats the Ship's Tavern at the Brown Palace Hotel. Tradition has all of the big theater touring companies in the 120 year old hotel bar with a stand up piano killing it! Must see! Get there early.
