8th Ave South, Southside

Around rush hour, or just about any time classes get out, traffic is terrible. Parking gets easier in the evening, but then again, that's really when you don't want to be wandering about downtown, isn't it? The Hill Univesity Center is here, which is where many of the UAB offices are. There's a nice little park accross the street, and the student center as well. Walk, don't drive.

University Blvd also known as 8th Ave south is a nightmare to drive on. If there is ever a need to get to UAB you will have to drive on University Blvd to get there. The hospital as well as the college are accessed from this street. You will find very little parking though. Those that do find parking arrive very early in the mornings and are often there all day. Be careful driving down the street, lights get very tricky and turn quickly.

University Blvd, also known as 8th Street, is aptly named because of its connection to UAB. I went to UAB for college and after a while I did all I could to avoid driving on University because of the insane amount of slow and/or generally annoying traffic that plows through there during the working days. Mostly the problems were due to everyone parking on the street/in the right lanes, and also due to the unfortunate people trying just to navigate around the giant hub that is the UAB hospital and related healthcare buildings.
Seriously, if you can at all avoid University, do it! Go around. Downtown is pretty sticky, traffic-wise, but to me, University is just too much. It is really convenient, location-wise, to the highway and to all things UAB-related, but it's best to go the long way around, just to avoid all the confused drivers trying their darndest to find a parking spot!

Busy street connecting to most major places. Morning commutes are tough. Houses and apartments scattered around busy area. Close to montgomery hwy.

This street is appropriately named since it splits the heart of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. University Boulevard, also known as 8th Avenue South, is really the hub of the Southside of Birmingham. It has the most traffic.
