My children go to The Montessori Schools in Yonkers and Love, love it. The teachers are wonderful. Although Yonkers has had some financial cuts, the quality of education that my kids are receiving are great. They look forward to going everyday and actually like to doing homework, including their reading logs and that coming from my 12,10,and 8 year olds.

Latest news from Yonkers Public Schools (September 2012): PEARLS Hawthorne School Named 2012 "Exemplary High Performing" National Blue Ribbon School. U.S. Secretary of Education Arnie Duncan honored Yonkers Public School PEARLS Hawthorne as one of the 269 schools nationwide, saying "Schools honored with the National Blue Ribbon Schools award are committed to accelerating student achievement and preparing students for success in college and careers." PEARLS is recognized among New York's highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally-normed tests. PEARLS curriculum emphasizes creativity, higher order thinking skills and experimental learning. Congratulations to PEARLS students, parents, teachers, principal Marjorie Brown-Anfelouss, and Yonkers Public Schools!

The schools, unfortunately, are not great. Like many school districts in the wake of the recession, the Yonkers schools were hit hard and have had to cut back on programs. Even prior to that, they were not that good.

The city schools are very wild I hear. From anyone I've spoken too they all recommended private schools which there just so happen to be A LOT of around.
