"A scary area of town"

I wouldn't travel this part of Denver alone at night. A friend of mine had a daughter that lived off W. Alameda Ave, and it was pretty frightening in the area. There is government housing in the area, as well as a lot of pawn shops and bars, which kind of makes it a breeding ground for crime. I would advise you lock your doors if you need to get out of your car for anything in this part of town.

WelcomeToBarnum Actually, the closest bars are Baker's St Pub in Belmar (a very nice if slightly boring British-themed bar), Wit's End Brewing Company (getting a lot of buzz recently for their amazing craft beers), and White Horse (which is gross and dirty, but there never seems to be more than one person there -- so I can't quite call it "scary."). I think there is a pawn shop further West on Alameda in Lakewood. There is not any government housing in Barnum/Barnum West. The closest projects I know of are further South, near Mississippi in Westwood, or further East, on the East end of Valverde. Brown people and accents aren't frightening to everyone.

Also, please remember to lock your car doors no matter what neighborhood you're in. This is real life, not a 1950s sitcom -- thieves and jerks exist everywhere.
