"Beautiful area in Forest Hills"

Forest Park is an area of Forest Hills, which is one of the most interesting areas in Queens. It houses the incredibly large and well equipped Forest Park, as well as the Forest Hills Gardens residential community, where you'll find beautiful prewar apartment buildings and lovely Tudor style homes. There are tons of shops nearby in Forest Hills: Austin Street has chic and trendy stores, while Metropolitan Avenue is more casual and has more big-brand and antique stores. There are plenty of delicious & diverse dining options on both streets, as well as on Queens Boulevard. Metropolitan has more parking. In good weather residents and visitors head to Forest Park, where they can enjoy countless activities that range from swimming to tennis or golf. Outdoor concerts are held here during the summer.
Transportation is incredibly convenient, as there are three subway lines, a Long Island Railroad stop, several bus routes, as well as many highways and major roads that pass through Forest Hills.

The residents are predominantly Jewish. There are many families and older residents. The neighborhood is extremely safe, with crimes rarely occurring here. There are also many good schools in the area, especially the Montessori School in Forest Hills.
Pros
  • Unbelievable # and diversity of activities available
  • Lots of transportation options
  • Eclectic shopping & dining choices
Cons
  • Long commute to the city

"Schools are not very cheerful"

I was disappointed at this school as I toured it. One of the first things that caught my eyes are the unhappy faces of the teachers there. The kids did not look so happy either! The deal breaker was the unfriendly nature of the Principal. My common questions regarding school complaints, how would you solve scenarios etc.....went over like a bomb. DEFENSIVE. However, he was honest enough to admit that a few teachers have had complaints in the past...that's good i guess. The building is very old and has seen better days. Overall , nothing special. But even though the one school i toured isn't all that good other schools may be good and the activities they have for kids at the parks and stuff is great for family fun.

"Great Park Area for Living and Playing"

Forest Park is really a park within a neighborhood, or perhaps more notably, a neighborhood within a park. Forest Park is an urban forest that spans approximately 538 acres. The area offers a wide variety of recreational activities and facilities including tennis courts and playgrounds, as well as The Carousel, George Seuffert, Sr., Bandshell, the Bridle Path, and Victory Field.

Many annual events in the park neighborhood include the Halloween Walk, the Victorian Christmas, Nature Trails Day, and much more. These annual events draw residents from many neighboring communities.

Forest Hills Gardens is the residential area of Forest Park and provides a lush environment for some of the neighborhood’s wealthier crowd. Apartments and co-ops are also located among the area. Austin Street is where you will find a few shops and restaurants.

"Lovely place, mix of residents"

Even though this neighborhood is far from the city (making for a long, boring commute), it is picturesque enough to still be an attractive place to live. The neighborhood is home to Forest Hills Gardens (a planned garden community for swank residents), as well as the regular apartments, condos and co-ops that are found just about everywhere in the city. In addition, there are also single family homes in the neighborhood, some of which date back to the pre-World War II era. If you’re looking for restaurants and bars, the streets to hit in the neighborhood are Austin Street and Queens Boulevard (which tends to be the more cost efficient of the two).

wartman
wartman The subway has express trains that actually make the trip to Manhattan fairly quick. I don't believe this poster has ever been to New York.
