"Steel Yards - Newer Mixed Use Development"

Steel Yards is a new mixed-use development, built at the site of, and named for, Boulder Steel Yards. Its 22 buildings include residential, retail, and office uses. It is located along the Goose Creek Greenway Trail, and is walking distance to many of the shops along the 30th St corridor. It can be a challenge to turn left onto 30th from the development, as left turns are prohibited from one of the access points, and the other point has no stoplight and 30th can be busy.
Pros
  • lots of restaurants
  • Pretty centrally located and easy access to I36.
  • public transportation

"Transit Village - Close to 29th Street Mall and Foothills Blvd."

One of the interesting places to consider in Transit Village is The Peloton. This is a group of new, modern lofts and condominiums that were originally planned to be owned by the residents, but some are now available to rent. This project is situated on Arapahoe Avenue and 33rd, so it is close to the 29th street mall and not far from Pearl Street and the CU campus. In addition to this, it has easy access to Foothills Boulevard, which means it is easy to leave town and avoid traffic. One of the major draws of this complex is its rooftop pool with amazing views of the Flatirons which is only accessible to residents. There is also a very nice clubhouse and gym facility right in the center of the complex. Parking is underground for residents, which is nice in winter as well.
Pros
  • Pretty centrally located and easy access to I36.

"The 30th Street commerce area gives busy, lively city living"

This area has been growing and changing more than anywhere else in Boulder in the last few years. The area east of the still new 29th Street Mall & Foothills Hwy has lots of new apartment complexes, the still fresh Foothills Medical Center, bike paths and parks and a few new mini-shopping areas with neighborhood cafes, restaurants and small businesses.

30th Street is the backbone of this "Crossroads East" area and the road is busy! 30th used to be a more quiet less congested way through Boulder but no longer. A real bummer in Boulder is the traffic. The students and tourists really push through town year round adding to the local traffic and Crossroads East is becoming yet another congested, commercial part of busy Boulder. However, if you live in the area and choose to bike or walk everything you need is within a mile.

The new apartments that have sprang up are modern and urban looking, the cost of living is not cheap by any means but it is still 3x cheaper than downtown just 3 miles to the west. This is a great place for students, singles and young couples looking to walk to restaurants and live the city life. The Boulder Creek path and lots of trails and public buses work their way throughout the area.
Pros
  • shopping access
  • lots of restaurants
  • public transportation
Cons
  • traffic
  • loud and congested
