"Pretty Drive"
Half Moon Bay is a lovely coastal town, positioned between San Francisco and Santa Cruz on Highway 1. While it is underrated and unheard of by many, it definitely has an aura of being both remote and classy, understated only in its confidence that it offers a high quality of living for its residences. San Mateo Road is the primary access point to this town from Silicon Valley.
The road passes by many small country stores and farm stands, which are very Half Moon Bay-esque, and ends at the beach by Highway 1. Heading eastbound, the drive is even more stunning, as the road runs up hills, through canyons, and under some tree canopies. Unlike many of the roads that bisect the coastal ranges, the views from San Mateo Road are not at all impeded but instead offer stunning panoramas of the foothills in many directions.
Don't expect raging nightlife or consistent cell phone reception - but do expect beautiful views and a quaint town that many people have never even heard of.
