Because Pueblo is a "high desert" environment, winters can be quite warm. Most of the local parks and lakes are open year-round for fishing, camping, and hiking. Monarch Mountain's ski resort is about a two-hour drive, but plenty of people take their skis and snowboards into the San Isabel National Forest to create their own ski slopes. Basketball season is big at CSU-Pueblo as well, so lots of sports fans take the opportunity to watch some college ball.
