Best date plan to pop the question in NYC?

Aww, how sweet! I'd say propose to her in Central Park over a picnic if the weather is nice; it's more romantic and memorable than almost any restaurant in NYC. You can get the fixin's at Dean and Deluca on 86th and Madison, near the 4/5/6 train stop.

@Ajadedidealist: I was also going to recommend Central Park. It is so cozy, especially during summer time.

My suggestion would be the rooftop garden restaurant at the MET with the city skyline as the backdrop..

The MET suggestion is a good one. You can't go wrong, especially since it looks beautiful up there, and Central Park is in the back yard, so to speak. So you can do your walking and hand-holding and smooching there afterward...

If you decide on that option, you'd take the 6 train up to 86th Street, directly from Grand Central.

If you arrive at Penn Station you'd have to do some switching of trains, so plan for the noise and chaos that entails.

The Met is very romantic indeed! Propose in one of the sumptuous 18th century French rooms from the furniture collection!

I think summer is a much better time to propose than winter... that way you can actually be outdoors doing things. I think it if were me I'd like to be proposed to with a gorgeous view of the city behind/in front of me, like on the Brooklyn Bridge or on top of a roof with a spectacular view - but not one that I had to wait in line to get on top of, if you get what I'm saying.

@andthagreat actually if you are arriving at Penn Station you can take a subway line to the MET right from there ..the C line from Penn Station will bring you to the 81st street and Central Park West station. As you exit the station there is a bus stop that serves the M79 bus. This crosstown bus goes across the park and has a stop on Fifth Avenue in front of the Ukrainian Institute of America which is just located steps away from the MET.

@ajadedidealist Youre welcome, I use that route ever so often.. I think its the quickest way to get to the West side for an east side dweller like me..

I didn't know you could cross town without having to do some monstrous three-train line U-turn thing....cool.

@Ajadedidealist: I like the idea of proposing in a furniture store. Have your finance sit on a brand new sofa and the man stand on one knee with the ring and pop the question. How romantic.

Well, since most people have Central Park in mind. Maybe taking her to an event would be nice. Then dinner. I found some event's for the month of June.
Richard III, 6-3 thru 6-27 at 7-10 PM, The Summer Stage 25th Anniversary Celebration on 6-8 at 6PM, Alicia Keys @ GMA Concert Series on 6-25 in the very early morning hours of 6-9 AM, Norah Jones and Sarah McLachlan at GMA Concert Series 6-11 also at 6-9 AM, and 2010 Shakespeare in the Park on 6-9 at 8PM. You could take her to the Boathouse for dinner. Though I am not sure how late theyare open. But these are just ideas. Just don't do what I did when I proposed to my hubby. I put the ring on his finger and I was so nervous I ran off and hid in the bedroom. He said yes.

I popped the question atop the ESB (so cliche, I know and had I known about the stupid crazy lines and queues I'd have done something else) - but I proposed in September 08 and afterward we went to see the Amazin's lose to the Braves in their 10th last came at Shea and then went to the Stage Deli for reubens.

My story - your mileage should vary - one thing I did was to have some "JUST ENGAGED - New York City" T-shirts made up :)

I imagine that is really nerve wracking... I mean, what if it turns out someone doesn't want to marry you? Do you break up? Do you save it for later? I will definitely never be the one to pop the question; let the boys worry about it I say.

@neversleeps: LOL Actually it ended up being his wedding ring. But I may have to buy a new one. With all the work his does involving his hands. The ring is getting worn. The one I've been wanting to buy him for a while now is $600. He says I shouldn't spend that much on him. But I want to.

@Freyja4 Ha... I was picturing a big manly ring with some kind of stone, like something a king would wear! But way to be sensible about the whole thing.

@Freyja4 I think it's pretty great you made the big move, and didn't wait around like a damsel to be proposed to. It's probably a good marriage if there's equality in all parts of the relationship.

@DBlack: It's had it's up and downs. The downs have been pretty severe. But we managed to get through it. Especially after we lost our first child when I was four months along. It was a horribble night. It brought our relationship back together. I still feel sad when I think about it. But, we had a miracle baby and he is now three months old.

I'm sorry to hear about your child, @Freyja4. But congratulations on your newborn! I hope he/she is getting the most out of life so far.
