There is a fantastic Private school thats only 5 miles away. It is Hudson Country Montessori School in New Rochelle. It its Elementary and Middle School. Quite a few families from Mt Vernon have their children there. My daughter is in 5th grade and absolutely loves it! Such an amazing program. Highly recommend it!

judithk3 Agreed!!! We are in Mt Vernon and my daughter attended Hudson Country from 2 years old until she was finished with middle school! She loved it and did so well academically and socially! She transitioned to high school with ease and now we are looking at amazing colleges! Highly recommend!

There is also the Montfort Academy that will be 7-12th grade, and is Catholic. It has a very good record of success for it's high school graduates(it moved down from Katonah a couple years ago) and the tuition is quite reasonable. The grade schools are pretty good-especially Lincoln. For pre-school there is a montesorri and universal pre-k in several locations.

For those who want their kids to have a Catholic education, your kids can enroll at Our Lady of Victory at 38 North 5th Avenu in Mount Vernon NY. The age group is pre-K through 8th Grade. There's also the Westchester Muslim Center and the Fortress Christian Academy. It's unfortunate that there are no general private schools because the public schools in Mount Vernon need serious help, but these schools are good for those with religious backgrounds wanting their kids to have a specialized education.
