The public transportation is great! The 29 runs right through Merced Heights to Stonestown shopping or in the other direction to Balboa Park BART. The Ingleside K, Light rail, runs east and west up Ocean Avenue either to downtown or to BART. It'll take 20-30 minutes to get downtown on the K.

The public transportation from Merced Heights into San Francisco isn't perfect but it is okay. You have some rail service over by SFSU and you have bus service that will take you in the direction of Bayview.

Getting to somewhere like the Financial District will take you about an hour just to give you a sense, sometimes a little more.
