Embarrassing NYC moments

Having now lived in NYC for over five years I have amassed a basket full of memories..but have had a few embarrassing NYC moments as well like when I locked myself out of my apartment in the dead of winter while attired in a skirt, t shirt and a pair of slippers and had to spend a couple of hours in the laundry room waiting for the husband to get home from work. This was during my first winter here when I had no clue as to how the lock system on my front door works. MY most recent embarrassing moment took place on last Saturday when I got into a cab and then realized that I had left my wallet at home and didnt have any money/ cards with me. For the record I stopped the cab almost immediately , while apologizing profusely to the driver who was actually quite okay about it .. have you had similar embarrassment moments in NYC ..do tell...

Hm...my favorite memory - I was 9 or 10, at Barney's with my mother. Not understanding prices, I said something like "don't they have anything cheap here, Mommy?" The saleswoman overheard, and witheringly replied "Not cheap, child. Inexpensive."

Somebody had been sick on the morning L train, and there was vomit all over the floor on one side of the car. Everyone just scooted over to the other side of the car. Along comes a woman who was walking through the cars from one car to another. She doesn't see the vomit and not only steps in it, but then loses her balance and slides down all into the vomit. She was dressed in her best and tidiest corporate attire, obviously on her way to some major job thing.

I remember seeing vomit on the floor once. I avoided it to. In fact, I actually left the train and went to the other car so I would not see it.

@DBlack :):) poor lady !my heart goes out to her...ooh I can't even imagine her anger and frustration...wonder what she did ? went back home, had a shower and changed her clothes? got off at the next stop and went into a store to buy new clothes... poor thing.. I bet she learned the lesson to be aware of your surroundings real quick!

@DBlack That is horrifying. I would have sobbed the rest of the way to work - or just called in, um, sick.

@ajadedidealist Cute story!

@uptowngirl I actually forgot my card - well, the one that had all the money on it - during a cab ride once too, but didn't realize until I got home. Luckily the guy was nice about it and let me go upstairs to get my card. It had been a long night of drinking for free at a bar where a friend was working, so it was kind of an embarrassing drunken moment.

@DBlack That is disgusting. I'm literally gagging picturing that. There is absolutely no worse scent than that of vomit, besides of course a dead mammal.

@BroadwayBK: I share your feelings exactly. If I see vomit too long, I get sick over it. No thanks. I feel bad for the lady who fell in it. That was totally disgusting. I'm shaking my head.

My embarrassing moments all have to do with snow and falling because of it. After one of those heavy snowfalls, I was walking home after the gym, and - even though I was wearing rubber soled boots! - I slipped and landed square on my hip. For some reason this was really funny to everyone around me, but man, it hurt!

@NeverSleeps I'm from Florida and have never really gotten used to navigating through the snow, either, especially in a car. I guess my most embarrassing moment was having my car frozen to the street after that first blizzard this year, when I didn't shovel the snow properly. Which reminds me, I still have a ticket to pay!

@NeverSleeps And people laughed at you falling? Jerks! They could at least be sympathetic and offer help.

@DBlack They were teenage girls. I would expect nothing else from such creatures.

@BroadwayBK I guess at least my embarrassing moment didn't involve having to pay a fine. But I did have an enormous bruise on my side for a while.

@NeverSleeps: I'm sorry you went throw that. I know kids can be really mean. Might be their upbringing, or lack thereof. I hope you are healing very well.

@Uptowngirl: Try about $115 for illegal parking.

@uptowngirl Well, your biggest fear happens to me all the time. But, somehow, I survive.

@hhusted It wasn't a big deal.... Kids are just like that, especially teenagers.
