Which is the best high school in Lakewood? Lakewood High School or Alameda High?

Also, is there open enrollment in Jeffco School District, can students choose to go to any school or do they have to go where their home address dictates?

I graduated from Lakewood, so I may be a little biased. But my personal history notwithstanding, I'm hearing a lot of great things about Lakewood High School these days. The campus has been completely re-build, we GORGEOUS new buildings and facilities. Plus it hosts the International Baccalaureate Program, and 5280 named it one of the top high schools in the state a few years ago. Go tigers!!

Based on test scores, Lakewood High School outranks Alameda by quite a bit. With an average rating of 8 on a 1-10 scale (10 being highest), it outshines Alameda by six points. Yes, according to state scores Alameda is one of the worst high schools around. On the other hand, state scores rarely tell the whole picture. Parents who have taken the time to rate and discuss the school, administration, and teachers routinely rate it higher and praise the attempts of teachers and administration to make the school a better place. As with any school, children who are more involved in things such as sports and activities tend to do better regardless of the school.

Jefferson County schools offer what they call Choice Enrollment. This allows any Jeff Co student the opportunity to go to any school within the district. They don't need to go to one particular school because their address dictates it. Hope this helps!

HeatherS Very helpful! I know Boulder has what they call Open Enrollment and now Lakewood's Choice Enrollment. Question...do almost all schools districts in the Denver area do this?
