If you want a real "hole-in-the-wall" check out the Sundown Saloon on Pearl. Actually it's more like a hole in the ground as you go down a set of stairs into another world. Pool tables and other games are all around and they do cheap beer pitchers too!

The Sundown takes the cake for hole in the wall/ground:)

That's tough -- I agree with Hole in the Wall implying small, but it also means community to me, where everyone knows everyone. For that I go with Harpo's on Arapahoe or the Attic on Walnut where we tend to meet friends to just hang out....

The first "hole-in-the-wall" bar thought I had was Jax on Pearl Street, although Jax is hardly a mom and pop operated, locals only dive. However, you have to shimmy around the front bar area to reach the restuarant because of the very narrow passage. Oh, you are surrounded by brick walls, which is very reminiscent of the classic hole-in-the-wall bar.

hmmm, thats kind of a hard one...there are some spots down on Pearl but it is Pearl Street so...for that hole in the wall midwest feel (hick) you would have to go to Outback Saloon off 28th Street in North Boulder. But hole in the wall implies small, this place is pretty big.
