"New homeowner on N. Berteau Ave. South of North Ave..."

N. Berteau Ave. is located about 5 short blocks away from the heart of downtown Elmhurst. The streets in downtown Elmhurst are lined with great shops, restaurants, cafes and we even have an upscale bowling alley. One of the great things about the town is the amount of independently owned businesses. Don't worry, there is still a Starbuck's, but across from the Starbuck's is Fresco's a small Mediterranean cafe, and down the block is Polay's Home Decor a great shop with excellent interior designers.

From N. Berteau, you can walk to the Metra station in less than 10 minutes and walk home from Fitz's Pub in a little over 10 minutes. =) The highway access is amazing, taking less than 5 minutes to be on either 290 or 294. Elmhurst Memorial Hospital with emergency services is located on Berteau.

We recently purchased our first home on N. Berteau Ave. We rarely hear emergency vehicle sirens going to the hospital. We are fairly close to the tracks so we do hear trains, which is why I rated the Peace & Quiet as a three. We are used to the trains now and don't even notice them. We do not have children, so I rated that service in the middle.

I also rated the Cost of Living as a three. Some of the independent retail shops are more expensive than what I am used to. On the flip side, they carry more designer items. Also, you can definitely find gas cheaper if you cross the boarder into Villa Park.

Within a week of moving in, I had met most of the neighbors on the block! Everyone was very warm and welcoming. It was exactly what we needed as new homeowners. Some neighbors have children, some are retired, and there are some that are young and childless. It is a great street for anyone.
