Safe neighborhood for young women, working at JHH.

I'm a female med student from Europe and I will be working at the JHH for 6 months within a couple of months.
What safe neighborhoods (esp. for young single women) do you recommend?

I was thinking of Mt Vernon. I read that this is a better option than living in the neighborhood that the JHH is in. Most important factor is safety. Would be nice if there are lunch rooms/ social spots nearby.

Thank you in advance.

The neighborhood closest to JHU is Charles Village, and the overall safety factor depends a lot on what part of the neighborhood you're in. A general rule of thumb if you're concerned about safety would be to stay north of 28th street, and probably west of Guilford Ave. However, there's a smaller sort of sub-neighborhood/community in the northeast corner of Charles Village between Guilford and Greenmount Ave called Abell that is really pretty and generally very safe.
