"Great Italian food, just like momma used to make"

Arrochar sits just a stones throw from the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. The neighborhood is strategically placed, especially for those looking to avoid spending time on Staten Island roads during rush hour. So where exactly is Arrohcar? It’s just southwest of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge with Grasmere, South Beach, and Ft. Wadsworth surrounding this small town.

Sometimes, I have found it a bit silly to hear some folks pronounce the name Arrochar. Let’s just say it’s been butchered as much as my own last name. So here is what it should sound like when you say it, (Arrow – car).

Two of Staten Island’s more popular private catholic schools call Arrochar home, St. Joseph Hill Academy and St. John Villa Academy. Both Academy’s are run from co-ed elementary school to all girl high-schools, and each institution has an established reputation of being top tier schools here on Staten Island.

Arrochar features a Staten Island classic, which has been a personal favorite of mine, forever, the Italian restaurant Basilio Inn. According to its web site, the restaurant was established in 1921, which is some run for a eatery on Staten Island. The ambiance is truly unique when you think of restaurant style dining, It feels more like being in a home than a restaurant, and boasts the best service to match.

"Nice Staten Island Neighborhood"

Arrochar is a very nice and quite Staten Island neighborhood. It is definitely a residential area with not much to do. There is not any night life but it is really easy to drive into Manhattan for that so it is not completely secluded. You can also take the Staten Island ferry to and from Manhattan. Although the area is diverse there is a large Italian community here. I like the area because of its quaint feel. Your neighbors are not in your business which is very common in other neighborhoods. Everyone here just does there own thing. One main thing that it is very important is to have a car because public transportation is not the best. It’s a great neighborhood to raise a family in because it’s very safe and traffic is not bad.
