"Bleak, bleak concrete"

This is mainly a business area. It’s all concrete bridges and buildings, with occasional dashes of that pale roadway gravel that matches the sweeping nondescript gray theme. Thank goodness for the rainbow flags on the gay bookstore! And three cheers for the other local businesses that have tried to give a touch of color to this place!

There are some condos in the neighborhood, and I’ve seen the photos of the interiors of some of them. They look great, and they’re very conveniently located. But it’s a long walk from them to any major greenery in the area. Some mornings I wouldn’t be that energetic or wouldn’t have the time.

If you have a low daily “green” requirement, by all means check this area out. It’s an easy drive or bus ride to Centennial Park or Vanderbilt, and that might be enough. (And being that close to the night life on Elliston place might be worth it!)

Metro bus routes 3, 10, and 25 all serve this area. That #10, the Charlotte Avenue bus, actually runs down Church for part of its route before switching over to Charlotte. The number 10 is also one of the most frequent buses in town.

"A Business Area that has condos."

If you know of anyone who lives or works for Vanderbilt University, then you are familiar with the West Broad Street district of Nashville. The area is located next door to Vanderbilt University and extremely close to downtown. The West Broad street district is located along the bus route which is essential when you work in downtown Nashville. The area is nicely cared for since it located near Vanderbilt and offers a number of different restaurants which offer patio seating for individuals to take in the views of the Vanderbilt Campus.

The Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital is not to far away and is home to many residents and college students of Vanderbilt University. Many of the businesses in the area are open late to allow for patients and their families to be able to get a bite to eat when having extended stays at the Vanderbilt Medical Center and Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

The area is cared for more than other areas of Nashville as Vanderbilt and its employees take great pride in the place that they work and live. The numerous stores and shops located near the Vanderbilt campus is visited daily by residents of Nashville and tourists to the area. Many of the stores are well known and are among the most popular stores of those artists in Nashville who live here and perform here in downtown Nashville. One of the best boutiques is Posh and this boutique keeps pretty busy during the day from different residents shopping as well as family members visiting their families in the hospital.

"Business area"

This is really a business district, with a mixture of plants, companies, medical offices, several gay bars and dance clubs, a Hustler store, and the wonderful upscale Chappy's restaurant. Chappy moved to Nashville after Katrina, and our city is the better for it. Also not to miss: Davinci's Pizza, for some really wonderful, unique pizza, and Mambu, a neat funky bar and restaurant.

This area is not far from downtown proper, and also close to the Vanderbilt area and all the activities there.

Not many homes in the area, but some new condios, including 1700 Midtown have sprung up in the area.
