"A nice area to visit or stay for a short while."

It's a good area. Lively, entertaining, diverse- but a bit noisy as well. I've visited friends there many times and enjoyed it, there's always something to do. On the other hand many of them move away quickly, it's alright for a short stay, but it tends to become annoying after a while. But for younger people and or if you're planning on sharing the place, it's perfect.

"A great area to reside with only very little annoyances"

I moved to Ashbury 10 years ago and have loved the area ever since. The "San Francisco Feel" can not be beat here. The food is excellent along with the nightlife. I have always felt safe, but take care to remember, San Francisco is still a very large city, with intermittent violence and other problems. Really there is nothing to worry about in Ashbury though. I have two little kids and have not been hesitant at all about raising them in the neighborhood. Plus the childcare options are pretty great and I have never had trouble finding a safe and affordable babysitter.

"Not quite gentrified yet"

The Tenderloin is a neighborhood that unfortunately borders two great neighborhoods - Union Square and Civic Center. Sadly, the Tenderloin isn't at all like those nicer areas of the city. It's dirty, unsafe, and full of shops advertising porn or electronics of questionable sources. Homelessness, drug use, prostitution, and crime are all major problems. While these factors do keep rents low, you have to question if it's worth not feeling safe walking around at night. The Tenderloin gets quieter and safer-feeling as you move off Market Street, though. Parts of it form the Theater District, with some of San Francisco's major theaters.

"North Beach-a slice of Italy in the City"

North Beach, the Italian district of San Francisco, great restaurants, neighborhood bars, easy access to public transportation walking distance to parks and cathedral. Close to the water, where everyone knows your name. You can walk home after a night on the town and still feel safe. the ethnic diversity is great, Chinatown is just a stones throw away, Union Square and all it's amazing shopping is a walk away, the weather is good and not subject to the San Francisco fog as much as some parts of the city. In just a 10 block neighborhood you can find evrything you need from groceries to live music to strip clubs if you so desire, and to repent the next day there is a Catholic cathedral to have the preist absolve you of your night before sins, what more can a gal ask for?

"A fun and affordable neighborhood in the shadow of the San Francisco Giants stadium"

South Beach is an excellent neighboorhood in San Francisco. It is still an up and coming neighborhood so there are still a handful of apartments you can get at a reasonable price, well reasonable for San Francisco anyway. The San Francisco Giants stadium is just a stones throw away, making this location perfect for baseball fans. But be aware that traffic and parking on game days can be a nightmare. South Beach is located right on the water, so it's a great place to be if you enjoy running my bay. It is a short walk to the Embarcadero as well as the ferry building where there are tons of amazing places to eat. There isn't much shopping in South Beach but it is very well connected, so it's easy to get to Market Street where all the good shopping is.

"Lots of fun ways to spend a day here"

The Marina district in San Francisco puts a heavy emphasis on outdoor life to let residents take advantage of the natural beauty of the area. There are walking, jogging and biking trails in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge. For rainy days, the Palace of Fine Arts, the Hespe Gallery and the Hourian Fine Art Galleries have hundreds of works. When you're hungry, there is a huge variety of restaurants, from Asian to tapas to steak to curry. The shopping is excellent as well, with most of the shops walkable for pedestrians, including a cashmere only store that's excellent.

"A beautiful neighborhood to live"

This neighborhood is full of beautiful vintage homes. Many have been updated. The majority of them have been restored to original condition. The views from this neighborhood are some of the best in the city. I've found the neighbors to be friendly. Noise can be a problem during certain parts of the day. Tour buses pass through on a scheduled basis, but they don't tend to be a problem. Overall, this is a safe and beautiful neighborhood. It's very walkable. It's set back away from other neighborhoods that have more shopping and dining options. The crime rate here is relatively low for the city and most neighbors watch out for each other.

"A cozy neighborhood for families"

Noe Valley is a great neighborhood. It has everything you need including public transportation, bars, restaurants, and supermarkets. You can also walk to the Mission, where you can get the most delicious Mexican food. There are tons of young families there, mostly couples with babies, a lot of babies are twins, maybe it is because mothers in Noe Valley have kids really late in life and so have to go through IVF treatment. I'm not sure. It's best not to live too close to the J-train though, which means you should avoid living on Church Street. When it comes around it can be quite loud and even rattle your apartment.

"Great place to live with breathtaking views"

Diamond Heights has always been a great location. The views are phenomenal and the neighborhoods are quiet. Christopher Park is a nice place to relax, exercise and take the kids or dogs. There is even a little trail from the back of the park that goes to Glen Canyon. The convenience of the Diamond Heights shopping center takes care of necessities but if you want shop therapy, you'll have to go somewhere else. Nightlife is nonexistent in this neighborhood. The location, however, is very centralized so you only need to go down the hill to Noe Valley, The Mission or The Castro for more expanded options in dining, shopping or nightlife. All in all, it's a great place to live within the city that is away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
