"Good, Bad and Parking issues."

Mitchell Street is a long and winding road that has a good mix of affordable older houses and newly renovated higher priced homes. This was once a neighborhood of long standing residents, where families all knew each other and there was a tightly knit community feel to it. Now with the ever changing faces in the area, and a new and younger generation buying houses on the street, something seems to have been lost. As the older homes have been bought up and renovated and "Flipped," the neighbors seem to be more reclusive and less interested in socializing with neighbors. Families with kids still live on parts of the street, so there are pockets where the old Mitchell Street 'family-feel' still exists. Little corner stores still exist along this street and there is access to the Ridge Avenue stores, BUT, parking is still an issue on this street because it is only allowed on one side.

""A little bit of old and new.""

Hermitage Street runs from Henry Avenue up to and crossing over Ridge Avenue, where the British marched through Roxborough in pursuit of Colonial forces at Valley Forge. It then continues down to Umbria Street. This street is a mix of old and new, as some houses have roots that go back over sixty years while others are newly renovated. The people too are a mix of long time residents and "new to the block kids." On the upper parts of Hermitage there is more available parking due to the fact that there are larger homes and more space between house. The lower parts of Hermitage have more closely designed row houses, and tend to be more congested due to 'outside visitors' coming there to park on the lower streets so they can walk dwon to the Main Street stores and pubs. While walking on Hermitage Street one passes a small public library at Ridge Avenue, then a nice park, that has concerts regularly during the summer months, and also one passes one of the oldest churches in the area, Holy Family, a long standing Catholic Church that has been the refuge of a majority of the residents in this area for years. Finally, at the bottom of Hermitage is Dobson Public School. Families, old and new, enjoy living on this street for the friendly atmosphere and the convenience it offers to the sights and sounds of the Main Street. But the parking is tricky at the lower end, so watch tickets.
