"Canal Street -- If you like hustle and bustle and good bargains...come to Canal Street"

It's not the most scenic of streets, but you can surely find some bargains if you keep your eyes open. Home to many chinese immigrants nowadays, Canal Street is also home to Chinatown. Along Canal, you can find jewelry stores, shops that sell everything from t-shirts, plastics, sunglasses, knock off bags, perfumes and colognes, as well as art supplies (at renowned Pearl Paints).

If you're hankering for some lunch, look for the many quaint lil chinese dumpling shops. They may not look like much from the outside (or inside for that matter) but the taste (and price), superb!

Word to the wise, don't bring you kids with you unless they absolutely have a PASSION for walking.

"Bloomfield Avenue, Verona, NJ"

Amazingly enough, these towns out in Jersey tend to reuse street names. Bloomfield Avenue runs through several towns, including Bloomfield Township, so don't get confused when taking the bus from NY to Verona. Make sure you mention where you're going in Jersey by Street AND Town.

Bloomfield Avenue is the primary thorough fare between a few towns including Bloomfield, Glenridge, Montclair, Verona and Caldwell, and you can find plenty of shopping and food along this road. In Montclair, you can get the best array of food and shopping done followed by Caldwell. Bloomfield used to be a great place but with the economy -- lots of places have closed.

"W 20th St, Home of Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village"

A great area with a superb development comprised of multi-roomed apartments. Complex is really picturesque and has a central park area with fountain. Squirrels are so comfy here they come right up to you.

See the fireworks on 4th of July by walking to the East River, go to Veniero's Italian bakery for some heavenly pastries, or walk down to the village ... it's all here on the lower East side.

uptowngirl Mayeg I think you mean E20th street as Peter Cooper Village—Stuyvesant Town stretches from 14th street to 23rd street from 1st Avenue to Avenue C. Though I do agree that Veniero's is fantastic absolutely adore their biscotti which I buy by the bagful.

"Sunset Avenue -- a Picturesque Street"

Starting at Bloomfield Avenue in Verona, this picturesque little street was once a dirt road going back to the 1800's that went through farmland. It's now lined with middle-classed homes that range from small ranches to large center hall colonial homes which have ample lawns and mature oak, locust, and maple trees.

It's also the home of the Childrens Institute, a school for autistic children who reside all over Essex County.
