A lot depends on your price range and what you are looking for in an apartment or condo. The Mission District is filled with hip cats but is far more affordable than anywhere north of Market Street. Noe Valley and Bernal Heights are popular with young couples and married types. Twin Peaks is quieter, less walkable but has some good deals.

The Sunset District is one of the most affordable places in SF.
