"Tabernash is a nice community to call home at a fair place"

Tabernash is a little community of about 150 people between Granby and Winterpark on HW 40. Over the last couple decades there have been a lot of new homes built on open, fairly large but barren lots. Many people that work in Winterpark live in Tabernash. There is sort of a rough characteristic here but the people are friendly and hard working. The cost of living is reasonable here and the average median household income is about average at $40,000/year. There are some great deals on nice and fairly new homes that go for around $250,000-$350,000 for big mountain homes with nice land acreage.
Pros
  • not too far from Front Range
  • peaceful and quiet
Cons
  • Berthoud Pass in the winter
  • tourist traffic
  • barren, treeless and windy

"A peaceful little mountain town"

Not many people have heard of Tabernash, probably because it doesn't have much to offer tourists in the way of amenities. There's no world class skiing here, no five star hotels, and no great dining or shopping to speak of. But this little town has some pretty amazing views and the townspeople, all 417 of them, are friendly and quick with a smile. Although I haven't spent much time here other than for two different weddings, it has always seemed to me that it would be a great little town to live in. It's peaceful and quiet, near some great outdoor recreation, and has a charm all to itself. The center of town has several businesses spread about, many of which are housed in wooden buildings that fit nicely into the scenic surroundings.

The town's population is predominantly white (91%). The median household income is $48,921, which isn't too much below the average for the state of Colorado. Housing here follows along the lines of income and is just below the state's median average as well. This would be a great area for someone who enjoys hunting, camping, or hiking. Since Tabernash is located just south of Granby on Highway 40 by about 15 minutes, there is pretty good shopping and dining not far away. So you can have the peace and quiet of a really small town, with all the amenities of a larger town nearby.

I would recommend Tabernash for anyone who loves the outdoors with scenic views and a quiet, laid back lifestyle.
