"An older part of Colorado Springs"

Colorado Springs is a large city and definitely diverse in the neighborhoods it has to offer. Although there are some areas of Colorado Springs that are really inviting, I don't feel that way when I am in Southeast Colorado Springs. We had relatives that used to live here and the neighborhoods began to look older, in some areas really run down, and in some spots downright dreary.

Although this is mainly a family area, it is located right next to Peterson Air Force Base and the City of Colorado Springs Municipal Airport. This can cause a lot of noise to be in the area, and some of the streets are major thoroughfares, so peace and quiet doesn't come to mind.

Some years ago (15?) I was working just off of East Platte Avenue on a project that required me to do some research off of the main road. I was met with much surprise by homeless men living under a bridge there. They were drunk and it gave me quite a fright, and unfortunately I do tend to associate this uncomfortable situation with the safety of the area.

Overall this would be a good neighborhood for someone on a lower income who wanted to live near other families. It is also, obviously, a good location for those who are stationed at the base next to it.
Pros
  • lower priced homes
Cons
  • some run down areas
  • noise from aircraft
