"Look around carefully here"

Here’s another area where renters and buyers will need to be aware of flood-related issues. And unfortunately, this area is residential.

Thankfully, we aren’t talking about the entire Osage/North Fisk neighborhood. Rather, the waters were confined to roughly an eight-block area. The inundated area is on the western edge of the neighborhood. It extends from about Delk Avenue in the north to Burch Street in the south.

A finger of water reached as far as east as 23rd Avenue, while the majority stayed between 24th and the railroad tracks. Isolated property damage was reported on Delk Avenue just south of Buchanan, and on 23rd and 22nd Avenues just south of Buchanan.

That leaves a large area that escaped disaster. Some streets have enough trees and greenery to suit me. But even before the flood, this area had more than its fair share of “fixer-uppers.” You might want to take a look around and see what suits.

Public transportation exists here, but I’m not sure it’s adequate for the size of the neighborhood. The number 42 bus runs through the center of the region, and the number 22 runs along the northern border.

"Not to far away from Fisk University."

Located near D.B Todd Blvd and I40, the area of North Fisk and Osage has a number of the lower priced homes as well as apartment buildings. The residents in the area are among the lower income levels and the residents generally do not bring in a large amount of income on a weekly basis. The homes are not as up kept as other areas of Nashville but when first starting out, the area is a good choice.

The area has a large selection of restaurants and fast food restaurants to choose from when looking for someplace to eat out at during the week and during weekends. Many of the businesses thrive from individuals who are traveling through the area on their way to work each day. Many of the individuals who work in the area will work in the area of the Meharry Medical School and Fisk University.

The area is along a bus route which makes it convenient when looking to park and ride to work each day as well as to school. Many of the students will choose to live in the area as the area is amongst the cheapest areas to live in of all of Nashville.

"North of Fisk Area"

This area, north of the Fisk area, is bounded by Buchanan and D.B. Todd Blvd. and Interstate 40.

The area has some lower priced homes, but is also close to some higher priced condos, such as the Werthan Mills and other developments. It is close to Germantown, Farmer's Market, and downtown, with all the great restaurants and fun things to do there.

I have read that some good places to eat in the area are My Dad's Pizza and Ed's Fish and Pizza House. I have not been to either but want to check them out.
