"A quiet area east of Aurora with great sports amenities"

Kirkegard Acres is a quieter neighborhood on the northeastern side of Aurora. There are single family homes here, but a large part of the neighborhood is made up of a golf course, an environmental park, and the Aurora Sports Park. The sports park itself is a great place for kids to play both organized sports and just for fun. There are many soccer and baseball fields and the neat thing about it is that right next to many of the fields they have concession stands and really nice playground equipment for the kids who aren't playing. The fields are very well maintained and clean, as are the restrooms. There is a small pond near the entrance where you can see tons of birds and other wildlife. On the west side of the park, if you go just beyond the fields and over a small hill there is a great area for exploring with a lot of trees and wildlife, although adults should definitely stay with kids. There is usually ample parking, even on busy days. One drawback to the park is that there are gates at the entrance and they are often closed, so you can't drive in. There is no street parking on Colfax so unless you ride a bike you're out of luck. This is a shame because the park is a great place for picnics and just starting a pickup game of soccer.

The neighborhood is located so far east there is little traffic here. What traffic there is happens mostly on Airport Blvd. as it's a main thoroughfare through Aurora, but it's good for the most part of the day. It can get a little busy during peak times, but nowhere near as much as in other areas of Aurora.

The schools in this neighborhood are about average when compared to the rest of the state of Colorado's schools. The homes here are a quite a bit less expensive than many areas of Colorado. Overall, the neighborhood has a peacefulness to it, largely in part due to it's location.
Pros
  • great sports facilities
  • a quieter area of Aurora
  • lower priced homes
