"A classic suburb working its way back up"

Expo park is great for running, playing disc golf, intramural activities, and playing with children or pets. Its large, open, an has lots of wild life. The surrounding business area is coming back up. Lots of the stores have been remodeled, anchored by the newly developed Havana Gardens. I have gone running in the park early in the morning and late at night and never felt in any danger. There is a lot of traffic on the main thoroughfares, Mississippi, Havana, and Alamedad but that also means good access to the highways and downtown, plus most of the residential neighborhood roads are very quiet because of the close proximity of the main roads.
Pros
  • close to shopping and dining
Cons
  • a little run down looking in some areas

HeatherS may be silly question, but why is it called "Expo" Park?

"Expo Park is the best thing about Expo Park"

Expo Park is a neighborhood that is largely made up of single family homes and businesses. Running through the neighborhood is Expo Park, which is a long area of grass and paths to walk or jog on. While this seems like a nice addition to the neighborhood (and it is) I have mixed feelings about this area as a friend of my was 'jumped' here while just walking. Granted, this could happen anywhere, but is does leave a bad feeling when writing about this area. I travel through this neighborhood often as our family doctor's office is just a street or two over. Although it doesn't bother me in the daytime, I don't know that I'd feel safe walking around here at night.

The homes here normally go for anywhere in the mid $100,000 to the mid $200,000 range. The median home price has really been altered by the incredibly high amount of foreclosures in the area, though. There are some incredible deals here right now for anyone in the market.

Many of the streets surrounding this area are busy, such as Havana, Mississippi, and Alameda. Along Havana are numerous car dealerships and the area keeps busy most times of the day. There are a few places to shop and eat in the neighborhood but within walking distance there are many more. There is also shopping nearby.

For anyone looking for a lower priced home or inexpensive apartment, this may be an area to check. There's good bus service here, and the neighborhood is close to shopping and dining. Just use a bit of caution here.
Pros
  • close to shopping and dining
Cons
  • crime
  • traffic
  • a little run down looking in some areas
