"Would you believe there are some houses here?"

I don’t mean to keep harping on StreetAdvisor; I really, really don’t. After all, if I thought they were doing a truly terrible job, I wouldn’t be scribbling all over their pages.

But I’m really feeling that territorial instinct here. I used to live not far from Ellington Parkway, a lot further north than SA’s shaded "neighborhoods" currently go. To me, that old area is “the Ellington Parkway area.” And to someone living halfway between my old neighborhood and this cloverleaf area, “Ellington” is something completely different.

So what’s down here with this confusing conglomeration of cloverleafs that StreetAdvisor calls Ellington? Well, for one thing, of course, there’s a little lingering flood damage. That area from I-24 back to the river got waterlogged when Nashville received a flash flood back in early May.

Settle Court and the surrounding streets are part of a very pretty little subdivision that didn't get flooded. The area seems to be mostly two story homes in a variety of styles and colors. Tiny front yards and not enough trees to suit me, but give them a few years to grow.

MTA’s route #28 hits parts of that subdivision. Five other bus routes run along the borders of the so-called “Ellington” area.

"Not So Safe and Sound!"

Ellington Pike is going to connect you from Downtown Nashville to the Madison and Rivergate areas. Madison has a number of newer shopping centers as well as places to eat while Rivergate offers you a place to enjoy shopping with the Rivergate Mall. Inside the Rivergate Mall, you can enjoy Macy’s and Sears as well as a food court and a Carousel for the kids to check out when you are sitting around the food court.

Near by to Ellington Pike are Spring St and the Cumberland River. The homes in the area are on the lower end as the neighborhood is not very safe typically when compared to other areas of Nashville as well as having a lower safety rating, the homes are not kept up as nice which is why the area is so inexpensive to live in. The cost of your property taxes is not as high as it is in other areas of Nashville.

When you are looking for a place to eat and want to eat fast food, there are a number of fast food restaurants in the area. One place that you most definitely will not want to miss out on is the Fat Mo’s restaurant in Madison. The burgers are made fresh while you wait as well as fresh French fries and if you are interested in the Philly Cheese Steak, you will not want to miss it. They also offer chicken and fish for those of you who would prefer either of these items over a burger any day. You will want to find a park close by to sit down and enjoy your food at since they are not an eat in restaurant.

Grocery shopping can be made easy with your one stop shopping needs at your nearby Kroger as well as Piggly Wiggly. Either of these locations will offer you discounts when shopping and can be busy. Wal-Mart is not to far away up on Gallatin Road which is a newer Wal-Mart and has all your desired shopping needs. Nearby is the Lowes home improvement store as well as Home Depot and Kmart. All of your favorite stores are nearby to Ellington Pike.

"A connector street"

Most people in Nashville think of Ellington Pike as being a connector street from downtown to North Nashville.

The area is bounded by Spring Street, Main St. and the River. The area has lower priced homes.

Main Street, headed North, turns into Gallatin Pike, and there are a lot of fast food restaurants located there. Continuing out Gallatin Pike for some miles, you head into Madison, and then into Rivergate area, where Rivergate Mall is located and nicer restaurants.
