"A small community with mostly families"

Aurora Hills has been around for many years. This well settled neighborhood has unfortunately gone from a great place to live to a fair place to live. The homes are of average single family size with most of them being kept up, but not all. The few that aren't make for an eyesore to the rest of the neighborhood. There are some apartments here as well, but they lack character and a good feel from the outside. Two of the streets and a highway that borders the neighborhood are all major roads which are frequently busy, even during the middle of the day at times. Getting around this part of town can be a hassle, but mostly during rush hour.

Although there are only a few restaurants within the borders of Aurora Hills, there are numerous restaurants located just a few minutes away going just about any direction. Shopping is located all around as well, but for larger shopping trips there is the Aurora Mall located just east of the community. Around the mall and also some of the stores located on Mississippi have noticed an increased amount of crime lately. Also on Mississippi Avenue there is located a rather run down strip mall which used to house an Albertson's grocery store but is now vacant. In the same strip mall is a pawn shop and a few other businesses.

There is a small medical building located just off of Mississippi Avenue and S. Potomac way, and although there isn't a hospital in the actual neighborhood, there is one just across Mississippi Avenue on Potocmac. The Medical Center of Aurora is a Level 2 Trauma Center and has numerous doctors of different practices working here.

The schools are relatively good, although Aurora Hills MIddle School was long known for the weird design which looked as if it was built on stilts and at the time it was built the building had no windows. They have recently built a new, much better looking school (with windows!) which has changed the feel of this area in general.

Also located in the neighborhood are several churches. There is a beautiful Catholic church which has pretty grounds and is a nice building to look at, even for those who aren't of the Catholic faith. It is well maintained and adds a good deal to the look of the neighborhood overall.
Pros
  • centrally located and close to major roads and highways
Cons
  • traffic
  • crime in the area
  • pawn shop in the area
