"A quiet little town with pretty views"

Poncha Springs is in central Colorado, only about 10 minutes outside of Salida. With only 736 residents, there's no real shopping or dining options here, but there are a few more in Salida, which has a population of over 5,000. You can find a small gas station and deli on Main Street though. Retail is overwhelmingly the most common industry, and the median household income shows the lower wages with an average of $38,590. The average median priced home goes for $157,348. The homes in town all look different and there is often no dividing fence or line from one property to the next. There are no sidewalks here and you can often see children riding their bikes down the road or an adult taking a leisurely walk. Things seems a bit more laid back here, and many of the residents are very friendly and neighborly. On the outskirts of town there are more modern, larger homes that come with a significantly larger price tag.

As for the town itself it sits at an elevation of 7,465 feet, so it's not quite your typical mountain town which is nestled in, although it is surrounded by the San Isabel National Forest. Their are pretty views all around and being in this part of the state allows for ample opportunities for fishing, hunting, hiking, and camping. No matter which way you look there are trees of many types.

In Poncha Springs there are 99 hot springs. These hot springs were used for years by people who believed in their healing properties, but as with many good things, they came to an end. The town of Salida had the hot springs capped and eventually cemented over, and the water now travels to and is property of Salida.

"Poncha Springs has 99 reported hot springs in the area:)"

Poncha Springs is a gateway are dividing northern and southern Colorado. Poncha Pass cuts over the very southern parts of Chaffee County (Collegiate Peaks and the headwaters for the Arkansas River) and into the expansive desert like environment of the San Luis Valley.

Monarch Ski area is about 15 miles west of Poncha Springs, there are two golf courses and endless hiking, biking, rafting and biking opportunities in the area. The Ute indians lived and camped out in the area and visited some of the areas 99 reported hot springs:) There are I think three public hot spring facilities in town.

I found real estate available in town with, for example, 3 acres, 3 bedrooms for $230,000. The cost of living is pretty decent considering that this is really a very beautiful, historically rich and diverse area to live in. Salida is not far for shopping as well as Buena Vista. There is a remoteness to the area but yet it is a crossroad of HW 285 and HW 50, but you can get away from the highways, out of town and up into the hills pretty quickly.
