"A quiet little town along the South Platte River"

La Salle is one of the many small towns along Highway 85 as you travel from Denver to Greeley. As you drive along this highway it's sometimes hard to tell where one of these towns stops and another one starts. Along the highway it always seems run down and less than appealing to me. But when you get a little farther off the main highway, things clean up in La Salle and it is much nicer. Many buildings are smaller but taken care of, although there are still some empty storefronts around as a reminder of busier times. Although there's not much you'll find in La Salle in the way of shopping or dining, it's only about a 15 minute drive north to Greeley which has a lot to offer.

The population of La Salle is almost 2,000 strong and predominantly white at 63%, followed by Hispanic at 35%. The main industry here is construction followed by health care and social assistance. The median household income is $45,988 with a median home price of $151,379, so there is a really good cost of living here.

Eight to twelve years ago La Salle was experiencing a higher than normal rate of crime in the town, primarily from assaults, burglaries, and auto thefts. Since that time the crime rate has dropped by well over 50% and La Salle is now considerably lower than the national average.

The schools in La Salle score average for the state when it comes to state testing standards.

Overall, I think La Salle is nice little town when you get away from the highway. Since it's so close to Greeley (population 95,000) it is just a short drive to find anything you could possibly want. The townspeople seem friendly when you stop and there are some pretty areas away from the highway.
Pros
  • close to Greeley
Cons
  • can smell from the many stock yards
  • run down in some places

"La Salle is a quiet town south of Greeley along the Poudre River"

La Salle is a small farming community of less than 2000 just south of Greeley. Situated along the Poudre River the town is not really recreationally centered like Greeley. From what I know there are no bike paths along the river, just properties and some broken down cars in areas left on private property. There are also some really pretty farms in the area that are well kept. It is a mix of old and some new that is springing up or cleaning up what has become ran down in the area. Most who live in La Salle work or at least shop in Greeley, using the larger town as their resource.

The schools in La Salle are part of the Weld County School District and the community does have its own High School, even though some students living in the community go into nearby Greeley instead. La Salle has one elementary school, Pete Mirich Elementary School and one middle school, North Valley Middle School. The schools and the district have a pretty good reputation and are all housed in nice facilities.
Pros
  • close to Greeley
  • good schools
Cons
  • run down in some places
